The last decade and-a-half have been an exciting time for Hip-Hop, with the rise of many successful Artists like Drake, Meek mill, and even a new generation rappers like Lil Baby and Lil Durk.

While the Hip-Hop community has seen countless W's we've also took some major losses.


In honour of these rappers we have written this article and would like to take the time to remember and reflect on the lives of some of these artists, RIP.


 

DMX


On April 2, 2021, at approximately 11:00 pm, DMX was rushed to a hospital in White Plains, New York, where he was reported to be in critical condition following a heart attack. On April 9th, DMX passed away. DMX was a legendary Rapper from Yonkers, New York. His career began in the early 1990's and released his Debute album It's "It's Dark And Hell Is Hot" in 1998. He was the first artist to debut an album at No. 1 five times in a row on the Billboard 200 charts.


 

Jimmy Wopo


Travon DaShawn Frank Smart or "Jimmy Wopo" is a rapper from the Hill District in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. on June 18, 2018, Wopo was killed in a shooting incident in the same neighborhood. Wopo's career began around 2015 when he started posting songs to SoundCloud. With the help of Taylor Maglin, the owner of Pittsburgh-based blog The Daily Loud, he quickly started to accumulate millions of views on his YouTube channel and in 2016 when the urban hip-hop blog WorldStarHipHop exclusively debuted 5 of his videos. Soon after on July 24, 2016, he released his debut project, Woponese, featuring Sonny Digital. His next project Balloween was released in October. Only one month later in November 25, 2016, he released a joint album with another Pittsburgh-based rapper Hardo, featured ShadyHigler, 21 Savage and Wiz Khalifa. On February 7, 2016, Wopo was arrested during a traffic stop for underage drinking and drug charges and was released on bond. Unfortunately after that Wopo was arrested again in New York State after he failed to inform officials of his trip. After being released he took to the studio to record his album Back Against The Wall. Wopo was only 21 years old at the time of his passing and he left behind three children, Aubree, Tru'Love, and Travon Jr.


 

Speaker Knockerz

Speaker Knockerz was a rapper known for his songs like "Lonely", "Dap You Up" and "Rico Story (Trilogy)", early in his career Speaker Knockerz sold beats to rappers like Meek Mill, 2 Chainz and Gucci Mane. He released several projects on the label Talibandz Entertainment incuding Finnesse Father (2013), Married To The Money and Married To The Money II #MTTM2 (2014). Speaker Knockerz has collaborated with artists like Young Dolph and Young Scooter. Speaker Knockerz died on March 6th, 2014 at the age of 19.


 

Mac Miller

Malcolm James McCormick, known professionally as Mac Miller was a artist from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Mac began his hiphop career in 2007 at the age of 15, and in 2010 he signed a record deal with independent label Rostrum Records, releasing his mixtapes "K.I.D.S." (2010) and "Best Day Ever" (2011). His album "Blue Side Park" became the first independently distributed debut album to chart the Billboard 200 since 1995. Leaving Rostrum Records in 2014, he signed with the major label Warner Bros. Records releasing 4 studio albums GO:OD AM (2015), The Divine Feminine (2016), Swimming (2018), and the posthumous Circles (2020). On September 7, 2018, age 26, Miller died from a drug overdose.


 

Bank Roll Fresh

originally rapping under the name Yung Fresh, Trentavious Zamon White Sr. or Bank Roll Fresh, is a rapper from Atlanta, Georgia. appearing alongside Gucci Mane, Mike Will Made It, Metro Boomin, Zaytoven and Jeezy on multiple records. Fresh is best known for his songs like "Walked In" and "Poppin Shit". Fresh was shot at Street Execs studio and later died at Hughes Spalding Hospital in Atlanta on March 4, 2016, after an altercation with his childhood friend and fellow Atlanta rapper No Plug.
